Class 4 - March 2020

Tuesday 31st March

Good morning Class 4 :-)!

Ms Bellis has signed you up for 3 competitions on Sumdog which I know you all love! Enjoy.... and hopefully one of you can win :-). Here is the link again.....

Daily Maths - practice the 11 times table (in full) please.

Writing - edit your 'food critic' piece of work from yesterday. Read it out loud to see if you have the correct punctuation - you will know if something is missing, if you run out of breath when saying it! Google an example on the internet and compare it to your work. Is there anything else you could add to improve it? Make changes in green pen to show you have self edited. Maybe you could read it out to someone in your house and get their opinion on it!

Year 5 Maths - Sumdog please. Lets try and get some really high scores going :-)!

PE - its dance time! Oti from Strictly Come Dancing has posted some dance workouts. This one is related to our class reader - The Jungle Book! :-)

Year 6 maths- please continue and try to finish yesterday's work on reading scales. Love, Ms Bellis x

Something to make you smile........

Alfie has been teaching his little sister the songs from Annie............

Monday 30th March

Good morning Class 4. I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and enjoyed some chill out time! :-)

  • Daily Maths - practice writing out the full times tables for 9. Say it out loud to someone in your house. Ask them to ask you questions e.g. what is 4x9=?

  • SPAG - ask somebody in your house to test you on your spellings from last week. Look at the below links for this week's spellings. Remember, if you don't have a printer, fold a piece of paper four ways to create four columns.

/docs/yr6_week_22.pptx

Access SPAG Online and complete one of the Grammar tests.

Remember to star this work after SuperMovers!

  • Writing - following on from last week's task, imagine you are a food critic. You have visited a fancy restaurant and sampled the dish you wrote about last week. Write a review about it. Think about the texture, taste, smell and appearance of the dish. What did you like? What didn't you like? Would you recommend eating this to other people (why/why not?). Focus of the use of formal and informal language again. You could include reported/direct speech in this task too. Did someone else comment on your meal? Did someone else in the restaurant try it and told you what they thought? It would be great if you could use some figurative language in this piece of work and think about why that would be a good thing to use?

  • Year 5 Maths - move onto the next page. Remember, if you are confident try and complete some of section B. If you want to really challenge yourself, try section C. Complete 30 minutes of this and 30 minutes of Sumdog.

  • This afternoon, look at classifying some plant leaves in your garden. Click on the link to access a zipped folder which includes a booklet, worksheets and help sheets......

Have a great day Class 4!

Year 6 Maths

  • Try to spend about an hour in total each day on your maths. You may wish to do this in bursts, especially if you are sharing internet access with other family members. Aim to work for 3 x 20 mins (including marking time.)

  • Click on this for today's work. Year 6 Reading Scales

Thursday 26th March 2020

Good morning everyone - I hope you enjoyed the lovely Spring weather in your back garden yesterday! There's nothing better than feeling the warm sunshine on your skin and hearing the birds sing :-)! This is something to make you smile...someone enjoying the sunshine in his cat harness!

Today I would like you to start with your Daily Maths (practise 8 times table). Remember to say it out loud :-)!

  • Reading - complete 30 minutes from your Comprehension text book. If you did not manage to finish the last piece of work, continue this with the short date in the margin. For the next task, start on a new page and write the full date at the top. Then, 30 minutes of the reading book I set you. Year 6 complete the next 10 minute test in your SATs Reading Buster book.

  • SPAG online - complete one of the shorter tests e.g. layout (a). Before you complete this, go onto the SuperMovers website and choose a workout. Year 6, complete the next 10 minute SATs SPAG Buster book.

  • Year 5 Maths - complete the next page in the Target Your Maths book. Work through the questions as before e.g. when you are confident try section B. Remember to start with a workout from SuperMovers!

Have a lovely day guys! :-)

Tuesday 24th March 2020

Good morning Class 4......how did your first online day at school go? I have thought about you all today and have wondered how you have got on!

  • Daily Maths - I would like you to practise your 4 times tables with somebody at home today please.

  • Reading - complete 30 minutes from your Comprehension text book. Remember to write the date neatly at the top of the page and underline it. Ensure you write subheadings. Complete as much as you can, as you can continue where you left off in the next reading lesson. Spend at least 30 minutes reading the book I set you. Year 6 please complete one of your reading tests from the SATs Reading Buster Book Set 2 in addition to these 2 tasks. Start the lesson with an English warm up on SuperMovers!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/ks2-collection/zr4ky9q

  • Writing - finish the task from yesterday and self edit your work. Check you have used the correct punctuation. Use a thesaurus (https://www.thesaurus.com/) and choose 5 words to change.

  • Year 5 Maths - choose a workout from SuperMovers (link above). We are going to start a Geometry topic now :-)! Turn to page 110 in the Target Your Maths text book and complete the first section in A. Ask an adult to check your answers and if you are confident, complete the first section in B. If you fancy a challenge, have a go at Section C.

  • This afternoon you would have had PE. If the weather is fine, why don't you practise some ball skills in your back garden? Or you could set up an obstacle course and ask someone to time you to complete it. You can then try and improve your performance by repeating it several times. If the weather isn't great, why not try out Joe Wick's PE lesson from yesterday...............

Have a great day and I will be back on here ready for Thursday :-)

Monday 23rd March 2020

Good morning Class 4 :-). I hope you managed to enjoy some of the sunshine yesterday, in your garden, for Mother's Day!

We will be following the same timetable today (as if we were in school). Please remember what we have discussed in class about the Coronavirus. I have put some links on our class page to help remind you. Remember we are being sensible and following advice - I have faith in all of you :-). I hope you will try and complete the work set on this page and, if you need any help or something is not working, please ask your parents/carers to email the office (it will be passed onto me). Although we wont see each other face to face, I am still here for all of you. We are both missing you very much but we will get through this together! Our school values are so true - friendship, love, resilience and respect. I know you will continue to be the stars that you are!

  • Daily Maths - instead of writing out the times table, say it out loud! Remember, it is not just the answers you need to know......eg. 1 x 4 = 4, 2 x 4 = 8. Today, I would like you to practise the 6 times table.

  • Work out - choose an ENGLISH workout from SuperMovers

                   https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/ks2-collection/zr4ky9q

  • SPAG - look at the powerpoints below. If you cannot print out your spelling sheet, get a plain piece of paper. Fold it in half, and then half again (landscape) - you now have 4 columns! Copy the spellings from the powerpoint in the first column and practise them on 3 separate days. You can ask someone to test you on your spellings first thing every Monday morning :-)!

                          /docs/y6_list_21_unstressed_vowels.pptx

                          /docs/Year_5_list_21_ough.pptx

  • Writing - as you all have different text books, I will be setting how much time you should spend on each one. Today it is 30 minutes from your Writing text book and 30 minutes from your Word Work text book.

Remember: to write your date neatly at the top of the page and underline it in pencil with a ruler; write the subheadings and underline them and write the page number in the margin. If you do not get time to finish this task, do not worry - you can continue in the next writing lesson (put the short date in the margin).

  • Year 5 Maths - for your workout, choose one from the KS2 Maths from SuperMovers (link above). Then, complete 30 minutes on Sumdog and 30 minutes on TimesTableRockStar

  • Mindfullness - on YouTube search for meditation music. If you cannot access YouTube, try and find a nice piece of calm and relaxing music. Listen to this for 5 minutes, focusing on your breathing. Take deep breaths - breath through your nose and push out your tummy for 5 seconds. Exhale slowly for another 5 seconds. Repeat this until the end of the 5 minutes.

  • Writing - google Jamie Oliver. Find your favourite dish he has made (mine would be Macaroni Cheese!). Notice the language he uses (informal). Rewrite this in your own words and include words such as: cool, pukka, grab, throw etc. Focus on: your time adverbials - first, then, next, after etc; the layout - subheadings, bullet points and of course your spelling :-).

  • Collective Worship - choose 1 member of staff, 1 boy and 1 girl. Say a prayer for them. Reflect on how you have displayed one of the school values over the weekend and offer it up to God.

Well done Class 4 - you have successfully completed your first, virtual school day at home!
