Monday 14th December

   

It's the last week of term and the last week of school in 2020! It's going to be a busy week filled with lots of Christmas cheer! On Wednesday we will have our Christmas Party and Thursday will be Christmas Jumper Day!
Last week we got dressed up in our Nativity costumes and acted out parts of the Nativity Story in our own class bubble. This week we will continue with the Nativity theme and thinking about the reasons why Christmas is a special time of the year. We will also be making lots of Christmas crafts and having lots of fun!

Monday 7th December

     

We had a great start to December last week. Some frosty mornings allowed for us to explore even more seasonal changes as we progress into winter.
We have been very busy making Christmas crafts for the Christmas Fair and learning about why this time of year is so special for Christians. We've explored the Nativity Story and practiced singing some Christmas songs too! More Christmas themed activities to come.

Phonics: This week we will be continuing our daily phonics lessons to help develop  reading and writing skills. We will be continuing Phase 2 of our Read, Write, Inc. scheme and learning ('oo' and 'ar'). We will be revisiting previous sounds and practicing blending sounds together to read  words.
Practice writing a short sentence with some of your new words.

We had a great week last week, further exploring hibernation, using our programming skills to program  bee-bots and enjoying our weekly yoga session too! This week we will be exploring the story 'The Fox in The Dark'  Keep up the great learning - it's fabulous to see your confidence growing with reading, writing and maths each week!

Monday 23rd November

Well done for completing another positive week in Class 1! We explored our key stories 'We've Going on a bear Hunt' and 'Don't Hog the Hedge'. You all impressed me with your knowledge of hibernating animals! We even made some nests and a brilliant  Autumn Collage. Well done everyone. Keep up the hard work with your phonics, maths and reading!

Phonics: We have finished Phase 1 of our phonics scheme, so this week we will be revisiting all previously learned sounds, practicing reading and writing CVC words and extending into writing short sentences.

Children In Need 2020

 Thank you to all of our children for taking part in Children In Need activities today and giving their generous donations. Lots of fabulous outfits too!

Wednesday 11th November

 At 11am today, we went outside along with the rest of the school to take part in a 2-minute silence to remember the brave men and women who lost their lives fighting for our country.

Monday 9th November

     

Well done on settling back into the new half-term so positively last week! We had lots of fun learning about Bonfire Night and completing bonfire Night related activities! This week we will be exploring Remembrance Day as well as reading our Key Story: We're Going on a bear hunt!

Keep reading at home with Bug Club. I am regularly checking to see who has been reading the books that have been set so that new ones can be added.  I will allocate more books to those children who have completed the the books and quizzes. Please check your child's understanding of the story before moving on to a new book.

Home-learning tasks are provided for if your child is isolating at home, however I would strongly encourage you to complete the phonics and reading tasks each week to support your child's learning in class.

Reading: Your child has been assigned reading books on Bug Club. Each child has a unique username and password that was sent home in a letter. I would encourage you to support your child's reading through Bug Club as an alternative to reading books being sent home. Encourage your child to sound out the letters in words, then blend them together to read the full word. Don't forget to complete the bug quizzes in order to earn rewards!

Monday 12th October

    

What a superb week we had last week! We explored lots of harvest fruits and vegetables, re-enacted The Enormous Turnip story (with a real turnip) and we even created our own model of The Enormous Turnip! I've also been very impressed with Reception for learning so many of their phase 1 phonics sounds and practicing blending sounds together to read and write words. Well done everyone!

Monday 5th October

Hello everyone! Last week we continued to learn new phonics sounds and practiced blending sounds together to make words. We explored our key story 'The Enormous Turnip!'  Some children decided to paint their own turnips and colour-mix their paints to create 'turnip colours'. There will be more turnip-related fun this week, so keep posted for more exciting pictures! We also had great fun during our Music and PE lessons, as well as learning about Harvest.
